She is a recipient of the 2012 Robert L. Mathis Community Service Award.
She has had her share of challenges in life, yet she's grateful for the positive role models and mentors God favored her with. Andrea says, "I can't say thank-you enough to my grandmother, Mrs. Nola B. Freeman, for her positive influence in my life. Most of all for taking me to Sunday School and church which prepared me to make the greatest decision ever, accepting Christ as my Lord and Savior. Raised in a single parent home most of the time, I'm thankful for the school teachers and Sunday school teachers that took personal interest in me. Their love and sacrificial time to mentor me in weak areas and always encouraging me to do my best and go the extra mile will always be treasured. It was their encouragement and support that brought out the POSITIVE things in me that I didn't realize were there."
Although she's experienced setbacks and disappointments in life such as mental and physical abuse, teen pregnancy, domestic violence and divorce, she still has so much to be thankful for. She truly believes that she's still here to impact and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
It is her desire to give back to the community the investments that were given to her through Esther's Heart. In her words, "If I can help someone as I travel along this journey of life, then my living won't be in vain. Our youth today need a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, encouragement, a kind word and someone to believe in them. We must convince them that "I Can't" and "Failure" are not options.Through character empowerment, motivation, support, encouragement and various activities, our younger generation can experience a positive transformation."
One of Andrea's favorite scriptures says, " We must be transformed by the renewing of our mind" (Romans 12:2). "When we know better, we should do better!" "Don't just Talk about it, Be about it"!!
Andrea's mantra in life is: Moving forward Expecting, Anticipating and Preparing to Participate in GOD'S Greater!
